What you’ll do
Reporting to the Vice President Academic and Provost, the Dean, Faculty of Global and Community Studies is responsible for the senior academic leadership of the Faculty and is responsible for strategic planning through to operational decisions/communications. The Dean oversees the performance of all faculty and other direct reports, as well as the learning outcomes and teaching, research, and scholarly accomplishments of the Faculty. As an integral member of the University’s senior leadership group, the Dean serves in a wide variety of management, academic leadership, and governance capacities, including the Senior Leadership Council, Academic Leadership Council, Senate, and Senate sub-committees.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a progressive academic leader, who is well-versed in university governance structures, to assist CapU in its ongoing evolution as a thriving university, grounded in the identified mission, purpose and values. The Dean will play a key role in building research capacity, scholarly activity, and creative output; continue to build on Capilano’s approaches and activities with Indigenization, decolonized practices, and Truth and Reconciliation actions; champion and extend international education; lead new program development/program revisions through approval and implementation; and focus on learners’ success through championing engaged pedagogies (e.g., undergraduate research, capstone courses, experiential learning, and other high impact practices) and collaborations with institutional support departments/units. The Dean will also play a key role in assisting with development, representing the Faculty and university when partnering with the Philanthropy and Alumni relations department and other constituents.

With approximately 76 faculty and staff, the Faculty offers thirteen credentials ranging from certificates through to post-baccalaureate diploma programs. Strong international partnerships are in place, and more are in the works; new credentials are moving through approval processes, and growth of the Faculty is expected.
What you’ll bring
  • A Ph.D. or other relevant doctoral degree in an appropriate field of expertise considering the Faculty programmatic foci;
  • Substantive post-secondary teaching
  • Extensive and progressive post-secondary administrative experience, including new program development and implementation, strategic and operational planning, and budgetary responsibilities;
  • Demonstrated acumen with university governance;

Our standard work week is Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm. This position may include working evenings and weekends based on departmental needs.

Salary
We offer a competitive compensation package that includes an attractive base salary and excellent benefits including a defined benefits pension plan. This position has a salary range of $130,738 (minimum) to $174,317(midpoint) to $200,465 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will typically be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
